Simple and Sensible Weight Loss Summary

I have recently been writing a number of posts to share my simple and sensible weight loss tips. Below is a summary, for more details on each suggestion please see recent posts below this one.

  1. Stop dieting and don’t count calories. Portion control is more sensible. Dieting is a biological unnatural state.
  2. Eat little and often – the idea is to convince your body that food is abundant, that it does not need to store extra fat and that it can burn off excess that is already stored.
  3. Don’t skip breakfast – remember that blood sugar rollercoaster.
  4. Eliminate/Limit all sugar and refined carbohydrates from you life, these foods are digested too quickly causing huge high then dips in blood sugar, which triggers adrenal hormones. The bottom line is the body does need carbohydrate, but it is the quality of the carbohydrate that matters and the balance with protein with each meal. Your brain runs on carbohydrates and that is why you can feel depressed, moody and unable to think straight if you are not eating enough of them. Do no LOW-CARB diets please.
  5. Add protein to each meal – protein is vital, as it is the basic building block for cells muscles, bone, hair, skin and nails.
  6. Eat essential fats – whilst many people believe that fat makes you fat, the real culprits are sugar and refined carbohydrates.
  7. Don’t eat on the run – this will give your body the message that time is scarce, that you are under pressure and that you are stressed, increasing stress hormones.
  8. Watch what you drink – drinking caffeinated beverages, alcohol and fizzy drinks all tell your body that is under attack so it stores fat around the middle. Water is essential for digestion, absorption, circulation and excretion.
  9. Change the way you think about food!

Exercise  – combine aerobic with anaerobic. Please do not forget Postural Alignment Yoga and Pilates are good as stress busters and lower cortisol levels in the body.
